The Enchanted Forest has been visited by some amazing and talented Bush Poets during the Ekka. This is Suzie (with Karen) who came and entertained the kids this afternoon with a fabulous version of ‘Would You Like To Swing On A Star’. You an see Suzie performing all around the Ekka, including on the International Food stage.

This is Mark “Bushie” Thompson, the current Queensland Bush Poet Champion. Bushie is performing around the Ekka, and he even wrote a special poem just for the Fairy Queen!

Our first day at the Ekka and we got to meet a real live bilby! I’ve never seen one before, they are so cute! And there’s not many of them around, so we need to take care of them.

Frank, the Bilby Man, told us all about bilbies and what we could do to help. He even got the Australian Government to declare ‘National Bilby Day‘ (the second Sunday of September, the weekend after Father’s Day). He also told us about the Save The Bilby Fund’s ‘Threatened Animals Crossword Challenge‘ which sounds like a fun thing for you and your school to enter. Great prizes too!

After meeting the bilbies, we played limbo with the kids in the Enchanted Forest! There were some fantastic limbo-ists and Sparkles and Stardust were highly impressed!
