Ekka Main Parade

Monday, August 13th, 2007

We get to be in the main parade! Sometimes, we even go on the back of the ute! It’s a lot of fun and we get to wave at lots of people. Do you like how my sunglasses match my shoelaces!

These ladies are the bashful bathing beauties and are from ‘The Brides of Frank’. They were in the parade with us and they had some fantastic music! Every day, they come in different colourful costumes. Check out their website here.

Foxtel Weather Channel and Ekka Security

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

This is me trying to present the weather at the Foxtel Weather Channel stand. It was very difficult! My wand kept pointing at Perth when I was trying to point at Brisbane! It was a lot of fun though at the people at Foxtel were lovely.

This is one of the Ekka security guards - they all help the Ekka run smoothly! You can tell the people who work for Ekka by their funky purple shirts!

Bush Poetry in the Enchanted Forest

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

The Enchanted Forest has been visited by some amazing and talented Bush Poets during the Ekka. This is Suzie (with Karen) who came and entertained the kids this afternoon with a fabulous version of ‘Would You Like To Swing On A Star’. You an see Suzie performing all around the Ekka, including on the International Food stage.

This is Mark “Bushie” Thompson, the current Queensland Bush Poet Champion. Bushie is performing around the Ekka, and he even wrote a special poem just for the Fairy Queen!

Real Live Bilbies and Real Live Limbo!

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Our first day at the Ekka and we got to meet a real live bilby! I’ve never seen one before, they are so cute! And there’s not many of them around, so we need to take care of them.

Frank, the Bilby Man, told us all about bilbies and what we could do to help. He even got the Australian Government to declare ‘National Bilby Day‘ (the second Sunday of September, the weekend after Father’s Day). He also told us about the Save The Bilby Fund’sThreatened Animals Crossword Challenge‘ which sounds like a fun thing for you and your school to enter. Great prizes too!

After meeting the bilbies, we played limbo with the kids in the Enchanted Forest! There were some fantastic limbo-ists and Sparkles and Stardust were highly impressed!
